Why does my story matter?  I told my story at the end of Fierce because I believe our stories matter. I believe stories matter because of Revelation 12:11 (NLT) which says “And they have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by their testimony.” Every Christian has a testimony – the story of where they were in sin, loneliness, fear, and death and then Christ came into their lives and gave them hope. Our testimony is the hope that makes this world livable.

The world is full of pain and sadness and all sorts of terrible things. It is true that the world is also full of happiness and wonder and redemption and all manner of beautiful things. Before Christ we were lost and then after Christ we were found. This is our testimony.

Telling our story puts more hope into the world. The book of Acts in the New Testament shows that even though Christians were afraid and being killed, they told of the Good News that was Jesus. They gave witness to his resurrection from the dead. They wrote down what he said and what he did. They told of his miracles.

Telling our story defeats the evil in this world that would have us be hopeless. It makes the world a better place to be in. Telling our story is one of the most important things that we can do as a Christian.

What does God have to do with my relationships? In Fierce, I talk a lot about relationships and especially our relationship with God. This matters because God and Jesus show us how to do better in relationships so we can be our whole selves. God helps us understand that we are worthy, loved, seen, and known on a deeper level than can ever be experienced by people. Because of this, we then hold our human relationships to a higher standard.

When I was young, things were not okay in my home. I began to internalize that I was unloved, unwanted, and unseen. As I got older I fully believed and lived into my truth – I am unlovable. Because I believed this truth, I gave my body away in exchange for words of love. I tolerated being taken advantage of and being beaten. Later, I tolerated being lied to and cheated on. Even more, I accepted less than I was worth. All in the name of love.

Until I realized that I was worthy, loved, seen, and known I took less than I was worth. When I knew my worth, suddenly suffering and pain were not good enough. I realized these were not love. God didn’t cause me suffering in his love for me. Jesus already proved he’d die for me. The men I loved would do neither. Only after these realizations did I do better in relationships. Only then could I fully break out of the cycle.

I am not perfect now. My relationships are not perfect. Life is messy and weird. Yet, God is still perfect and good. Jesus set an example and told us how to love. In understanding these things, being beaten and accepting less than God’s best for us is not even an option.

Now on to the Freebies!!!

Again, for today, the same as the other days this week, I have created 2 free downloadable verse prints for you. They are available in either PDF format or PNG format. Today’s verse is…

“O Lord, if you heal me, I will truly be healed; if you save me, I will be truly saved. My praises are for you alone!” Jeremiah 17:14 NLT

There’s something that being in relationship with Jesus heals us. Somehow, we are healed just by existing in his love for us. Somehow, it happens. I don’t fully understand how it works. All I know is that I prayed for God to forgive me, began talking to him daily, and returned to church. Then I began reading the Bible and hanging out with other Christians. While I was doing these things, God changed my life.

He helped me see that he wanted nothing but excellent for me. Excellence in life, in love, in work, and in being. I began to see he is a good Father and that I am his daughter. He loves me and sets me on solid ground. When I realized these things, I realized I was throwing away all he had in store for me by disobeying his words and by ignoring who he says I am.

Only God can heal those parts of us that the world has broken. Only God can make us whole. Only God knows everything about who we are and how he made us. Only God can say what we are here for. Only God knows our true worth.

The world only breaks us and tells us we’re not worthy. The world encourages us to point out our flaws. The world encourages us to put on a fake smile and show our false perfections to the world. The world encourages us to compare ourselves to others. We fall into these traps throughout our lives. When we get in relationship with God, he saves us from these traps.
