Hello, Lovelies! I have a song I want to share with you today. This weekend, at church, they played this song [Goodness Of God (Lyrics) ~ Bethel Music – YouTube]. It’s called Goodness of God by Bethel Music. I think it’s sung by Jenn Johnson.
Anywho, I was immediately cast into the space where I recall all the wonderful ways that God has gotten me to where I am today. Even when I was intentionally walking away from God, he was right there providing for me and protecting me. I had no idea – I just kept walking away wondering how he could allow such horrible things to happen to me.
Now, years later, I realized that in life there are hard things and easy things. Abuse is a hard thing and that God is good is an easy thing. I hope that I get to sing of his grace forever – just as the song says. Because friend, even when I was walking away he was good. He was good when he was patiently waiting for me. He was good when he sat with me as I cried so many times. He was good when I cussed at him and stomped my feet in his presence. Not only that but he provided. I am glad that I serve this God.
That is who our God is – he sits with us as we cry; he lets us walk away and come back; he lets us pout and take control and make mistakes. While he does that, he protects and provides. He comes after us as the shepherd goes after the lost sheep. He comes after us searching as the woman who lost her coin. He waits patiently for us as the father whose son is lost, too. He rejoices as the shepherd and the woman do; celebrates as the father when his son returns.
We sang another song [You’re Still God (Lyric Video) – Philippa Hanna – YouTube]. This song reminded me how much he is with me. It reminded me that no matter what happens in this world God is still in the throne room. Not only that, but Jesus has victory in this world. So, no matter what happens on this earth, no matter what harm befalls us, no matter how much we hurt, he is still God. He is bigger than our problems. When there’s trouble on the horizon, we tell our problems how big our God is, not the other way around.
The song reminded me of the [post] I made last year, a few months into the pandemic. I was reading and came across this verse: But the Lord is still in his holy Temple; the Lord still rules from heaven. He watches everyone closely examining every person on earth. (Psalm 11:4 NLT) Whatever your experience right now – the Lord is still on the throne; He still rules from heaven.
I’d like to pray for us today. I’d like to pray about surrender. This is where my heart led me Sunday. That because he is so good, because we trust in his goodness, that we can let him lead us to the place where we belong. Because he is still on the throne. You can pray the prayer below for yourself and all who are reading along with you.
Dear God – I am reminded today of all the wonderful things that you have done for me in all my times of trouble and I say thank you for these things. I say thank you for all the things that you have done that I don’t even see or understand. Help me to know that you are for me and not against me. Help me to remember your victory in this world. Times are still hard and life is still difficult – and you already have victory. Help me and all who are reading this remember to surrender all that we have and all that we are to you. Help us surrender money, relationships, family, anger, pain, sadness, financial stresses, health and wellness, and any other things that we are focusing on right now. Help us surrender our fear and anxiety to you so that we may have your peace. Help us to focus on how much bigger you are than our problems. Let us focus on your victory instead of what we think is our defeat. Let me rest by streams in the desert, green pastures in the valley, and in your loving arms today in every day. Lord, we ask this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
