One Word

Happy New Year friend!

I hope you’re looking forward to 2021 as much as I am. Not just because 2020 became a derogatory term but because I love new beginnings. New planners, new habits, new intentions. I love new things.

Each year, I pick a word to focus in on through the year. The idea is that the word sets your intention for the year. It’s like you’re at the fork in the road and you’re choosing a direction to go. Left or right. 

You might be wondering how to choose. Well, usually you pray. Ask God and see what he says. A word usually comes to your mind or you feel it in your gut that it’s the right word. 

My word for 2020 was stewardship. I learned a lot and did better at many of the things I have struggled with for years. I plan on continuing to do better with stewardship of my time and money this new year. However, I have picked my word for 2021 and I’d like to share it with you…Alright! 

The word is … Steadfast. It is defined as: firmly fixed in place; immovable; not subject to change; firm in belief, determination or adherence.

Here are some examples of how I’m starting out with this word: 

  1. I firmly believe that God will fix the pandemic in our world. 
  2. I believe that I will accomplish much more this year than last. 
  3. I will stand firm in my faith. 
  4. I am determined to accomplish that which I set as a goal this year. 

This is where I am starting out for 2021. I believe we will do better, be better, and have better perspective in 2021. What is your word?

Here’s a free card to print and write it down. It’s a good way to start the year out. Put ti somewhere you’ll see it often. Make it a bookmark, put it on a cork board, place it on your refrigerator. You get the idea.

Just take some time, a few minutes, a half-hour, whatever you need, and be still in God’s presence. Ask him, he’s sure to answer. 

Since we’re embarking on another year in our journey on this earth, I’d like to offer a prayer for your reader. It’s one of my favorite prayers from Paul, in the Bible. 

Paul’s Prayer for the Ephesians:

For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

Ephesians 3:14-21, NLT.
